Social Stamping War and Peace

This week’s theme is War and Peace which works well for us as it is Anzac Day today. Anzac Day is an important day for us, all my kids go to Scouts and always get involved with Anzac Day. Having a Joey, a Cub and a Scout in the family means we get involved with Anzac Day overnight camps, guarding the war memorial and attending the Anzac Day March. It is a very important day for us to remember the men and women that lost their lives for us so we can live the life we do today.

Anzac Day this year looks a little different thanks to Covid-19. There will not be the usual overnight camp together, no guarding of the war memorial and no Anzac Day March. However, we will still be doing our Anzac Day sleepout with our family instead on the front lawn. We will still get up early, not for the dawn service but for a service at the end of our driveway. If we have learnt anything during our time of social distancing and isolation it is that we can adapt to a new normal for the time being without forgetting how important Anzac Day is.

In our preparations for Anzac Day this year we wanted to make a wreath to place on our letterbox and what better than a wreath made of poppies! So Miss 12, Miss 9 and Mstr 6 all worked together to make a wreath full of poppies. There was lots of sticky fingers but they all said to me that it was a fun project. Well of course it is! Paper crafting is fun!

                  

They all took turns with each step, cutting the poppies, gluing them together and placing them onto the wreath. They worked very well together. The end result was fantastic!

    

Did you also notice our decorated front door? We decorated this in rainbow coloured hearts to join in spreading some love that we are all in this together. We have had many people walk past our house and admire our creativity. Lots of houses are doing the same to spread the love at this time. We also decorated some empty milk bottles and stamped some poppies using the Painted Poppies Stamp Set just onto some copy paper and coloured in with blends. We used these to light a candle during our morning service.

And it isn’t Anzac Day without Anzac Biscuits! We made some yummy crunchy ones. The best kind I reckon! There is none left so I think we might just need to make another batch!

Even though this Anzac day was different to the norm, I think we still did a great job remembering. Lest We Forget.
