Coming Home for Christmas

Christmas is coming! 97 days to go to be exact. So it was time to drag out my Coming Home bundle to make something Christmas themed for my September card class.

As soon as I saw this bundle, I loved the cute little car and I wanted it to move. So I went searching and I found a tutorial that I could use and make a slider card. I followed the instructions from Lisa Curcio from Lisa’s Stamp Studio. Lisa mentions in her video that the idea for this fancy fold came from her team member Megan. I used Smoky Slate and Pool Party card stock for the card bases then added some Trimming the Town DSP. I used Granny Apple Green, Soft Suede, Misty Moonlight, Smoky Slate, Poppy Parade blends for the colouring on the house, trees, car and Christmas wreath.

The best bit about this card is that it is interactive! That little car moves as you pull the ribbon. So easy to create but a real wow card! My 7 year old son, sat at my craft desk mesmerised by this, opening and closing it continuously. I have put a kit aside for him so that we can make this together soon. I don’t think it matters how old you are though, any interactive card is fun for the maker and just as fun for the receiver of the card.

I had positive feedback on this card from my class. It makes me happy to know people enjoy making the cards that I put together for our monthly classes. We used the 1″ circle punch to cut out the notch on the right hand side of the card and we used a handheld punch for the tiny hole for the ribbon.

The ribbon used is also from the Trimming the Town Suite Collection. It comes in a pack of two spools with two colours Old Olive and Poppy Parade. This ribbon is 1/8″ wide with gold trim.

The sentiment “From our House to Yours” was stamped onto Poppy Parade with Versamark ink then heat embossed with white embossing powder.

I am so pleased with how this turned out thanks to Lisa’s awesome video. I can see myself using this card design again and again.

So will you give this a try? It is easier that you might think! I would love to see if you do. Apologies for my boring photos today, it rained all day today and I wasn’t keen to go outside and dodge the rain so the newly cleaned carpets would have to do for my photos today! Haha!

I want to know….are you an organised early Christmas planner or leave it to the last minute? I hate to admit but I am kind of a leave to the last minute kind of gal when it comes to Christmas. Maybe I will be more organised earlier this year. I can only try!

Until next time, keep on crafting!

  1. Such a great idea, Mandy! I love how it turned out! I haven’t made any interactive cards but am definitely keen to give this one a go for Christmas and for other occasions too! I always try to plan my Christmas cards in advance and before I know it Christmas is here.. hopefully this year I’ll be more organised 😁
